Rules Regarding Looking at Non-Mahram
)
A 25-year-old virgin woman has converted to Shia Islam. Her family is Sunni and does not know about her conversion. She is financially independent and makes her own decisions regarding education, employment and finances. Her father does not force her regarding marriage and asks her to choose whom she wishes to marry. She entered into a temporary marriage with a Shia man without knowing the ruling regarding the father's permission. Both the man and woman follow Ayatollah Sayyid Ali al-Sistani. According to Sayyid Sistani, this issue is based on obligatory precaution. 1. Is the temporary marriage valid in this situation without the father's explicit permission? 2. Can a follower of Sayyid Sistani perform rujū' to your ruling in this specific issue? 3. If rujū' is permissible, what is the ruling regarding this existing temporary marriage?
