Salamun alaykum. 1-I have been suffering from an intestinal problem for the past six years. I have been to more than ten doctors but to no avail. Some say that you have a nervous and irritable bowel. In a nutshell, I am suffering from incontinence and I cannot retain my wudhu because I cannot control my bowl. After I make wudhu, I often break wind even in the middle of two successive prayers. I have not been able to find a cure and it is becoming a source of headache and frustration for me. I am becoming increasingly tired now and I wonder what my religious obligation is. 2- I have problem offering my prayers especially the noon and afternoon prayers. Since these two prayers should be offered in low and whispering voice, I sometimes have to offer my prayers several times because according to Imam Khomeini (ra), if one does not recite even one tašdīd "emphasis", his prayers become void. What is my obligation? I often cannot correctly pronounce the letter “zad” (ض). How do I have to go about it?

In the Name of God, the Most High

1- It is necessary to have wudhu (be in the state of ritual purity) for every prayer. If it is extremely difficult to control your bowl or if the very thought to maintain your ritual purity will intensify your illness, you can perform Tayammum in stead of wudhu.

2- Correct pronunciation of the words to the regular extent, which is in fact the acceptable pronunciation, is a basic element and a necessary condition for the validity of prayers. If you are unable to pronounce the words in a standard manner, you should try your best to pronounce the words as correctly as you can.

3- OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder) is a disease or a satanic mood which changes the pleasure of worship into hardship and difficulty depriving him of mental and physical comfort. One should not pay attention to satanic temptations and it is necessary for him to avoid being obsessive.  An action which emanates from obsession (wasvas) is haram. The religion has some reasonable solutions to make matters easy. If you act according to the solutions proposed by the religion, you will enjoy the pleasure of worship and religiosity.
