President of the Porch of Wisdom Scientific and Research Institute stressed on presenting Islam in a manner which can be consistent with the current situation. He said, "Endeavors should be made to present Islam in a modern context."
Islampedia, an internet encyclopedia, was formally launched Monday on the birthday anniversary of the Holy Prophet (pbuh) and Imam Sadiq (a.s). According to Mehr reporter in Qom, Ayatollah Mahdi Hadavi Tehrani said to reporters in an inaugural ceremony, "Concerted efforts should be made to present Islam in an appropriate and up-to-date way, one that suits the current-day circumstances. The Porch of Wisdom Cultural Institute came into being with the same objective in mind."
He stressed on using the internet as a tool with infinite capacities for disseminating Islamic concepts.
"When it comes to the up-to-date methods used by some Islamic institutes and cultural complexes in the country, some vacuums were felt which to some extent have been filled and redressed by the Porch of Wisdom Scientific and Research Institute," Ayatollah Hadavi Tehrani was quoted as saying.
He noted that efforts have been made by Porch of Wisdom Scientific and Resarch Institute to use modern tools in transmitting Islamic concepts and presenting up-to-date contents that would meet the needs of the addressees and that they are rich enough to be worthy of ascription to Shia and the school of Ahlul-Bayt (a.s.). If the contents are not rich, the addressee will lose his confidence and will no longer trust in the institute.
He also talked about other actions taken by the Porch of Wisdom Scientific and Research Institute. "In the year 2006, IslamQuest website was launched and after four years now this website is available in as many as 14 languages. Perhaps, it is considered to be one of the most important and the biggest of Shiite centers providing answers to questions on religious issues."
President of Porch of Wisdom Institute said that two points are always taken into consideration by the team of IslamQuest website. One, the questions are presented in an attractive way and the second point is that a number of phases are involved until the answers are provided and finalized.
"As of now, the website has been able to answer twelve thousand questions on various Islamic themes such as hadith, theology, mysticism, jurisprudence etc. These questions and answers are not only classified and made available on the website but they are also sent to the questioner and finally printed in the form a book," he was quoted as saying to reporters.
Speaking about the future actions and plans of the Porch of Wisdom Institute, Ayatollah Hadavi said that the Institute aims to be turned overtime into an international institute for scientific and cultural studies so as to generate science, engage in theoretical discussions, reconstruct human sciences on the basis of Islamic values to make optimal use of the three decade experience of the Islamic revolution in the area of Islamic and human sciences and to make use of human force and capacity in this regard to attain the most applicable scientific, educational and cultural models for religious and scientific figures and the general public all over the world.
"In the future, we plan to establish Hikmat International University of Human Sciences, and Hikmat International Seminary of Islamic Human Sciences in professional level and in the public level and we also plan to establish a TV channel called "Islam Live", and also Islamic e-mail and weblog systems," Hadavi Tehrani was quoted as saying.
